Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five where he liked participating in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these particular card games as he was playing his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York City to participate in some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were difficult as he played many hours and lose most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could better his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and focus more on the game.
The actual advancement in his abilities began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently challenge each other. He was able to access a number of the best players in chess. With their assistance, he would hone his cunning thinking skills. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of NL Texas Holdem.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a great student of poker as she would always be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest female players the poker arena ever. Howard moved to Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
