Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
