Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
