Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
